‘Love & War’ Production Explodes to ₹425 Crore: In an exciting development, it has been revealed that the upcoming period romance ‘Love & War‘, which is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, has witnessed a massive scale-up in both budget and production time. Many industry sources have revealed that the film that has Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal has now crossed an estimated production cost of ₹425 crore, and it will have an extended 50-day shooting schedule.
The film was planned to be completed within 120 days, but Love & War has already logged nearly 175 shooting days, and crucial portions of the film are still left to be filmed.

Extended Schedule Pushes Production Well Beyond Original Plan
Bhansali, who is known for his meticulous visual style and perfection-driven filmmaking, has reportedly revised the production timeline several times. It has been revealed that three elaborate songs and one major dramatic sequence are still pending; that has prompted the production team to add almost two more months to the schedule.
The war sequences look so promising, as they are said to be mounted on a grand and technically demanding scale. These complex set pieces have significantly contributed to the delay and also to the sharp rise in the overall cost of the film.
Industry insiders have already revealed that the project was initially budgeted at around ₹350 crore. And, finally, after the latest extensions, the cost has now escalated to ₹425 crore, which has made Love & War the most expensive film of Bhansali’s career so far.

Lead Actors Opt for Profit-Sharing Deals
Interestingly, the reported ₹425 crore budget does not include the fees of the three leading stars. It has been revealed that the actors have opted for backend profit-sharing arrangements, which means their earnings will be linked directly to the film’s theatrical performance.
This approach has significantly reduced immediate production expenses, and it has also increased long-term financial stakes for both the actors and the producers.
Strong Pre-Release Recoveries Offer Financial Cushion
The film has already secured substantial pre-release revenues. Bhansali has largely financed the project himself, and Saregama India is expected to join the film at a later stage.
Many sources indicate that more than ₹200 crore has already been recovered through non-theatrical deals. Moreover, the streaming rights of Love & War have reportedly been sold to Netflix for approximately ₹130 crore. In addition, music and satellite rights are believed to have fetched another ₹70–80 crore.
These figures provide a strong safety net, but industry observers note that the remaining financial exposure is still significant.
What to expect from Love & War
Love & War is described as an intense period romance that will take us to a large-scale war setting. The story is likely to revolve around a dramatic rivalry between the characters that are played by Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal, and they both will be competing for the same woman that will be portrayed by Alia Bhatt.
Bhansali Denies Connection With ‘Sangam’
There have been reports that have speculated that the film draws inspiration from Sangam, which is the classic romantic drama starring Raj Kapoor. However, Bhansali has firmly denied any creative or narrative connection with the 1964 film.
He has clarified that Love & War is an original story that is developed specifically for a contemporary audience, and he has tried to maintain the emotional sweep of classic cinema.
