Local Times Series Review (2026): The idea of newsroom drama is always an attractive one to the audience, who want to take a glimpse into the wild and chaotic world of journalism. However, “Local Times” does not capitalize on the opportunity to take advantage of the drama that is possible within the newsroom.

Local Times Series Plot
The story is about Veera and his group of friends who are trying to keep their small newspaper alive that is “Namma Seidhi”. It was founded by Veera’s grandfather, Chelladurai, who is a seasoned journalist who believes in the ethics of journalism with conviction. The group consists of Veera, Azhagu Sundaram, Srivalli, and Muthu.
The initial attempts to bring up the essence of journalism and the challenges faced by small newspapers are commendable. However, the story takes a turn for the worse as it does not attempt to bring any fresh perspective to the story. Instead, it continues to follow the humor and financial struggles of the group.
Cast Performances
The series boasts an impressive cast of characters, including Rishikanth, Abdool Lee, Maurish Dass, Adwitha Arumugam, Pandiarajan, Chinni Jayanth, and Nandhitha Sreekumar.
Rishikanth does a decent job playing the role of Veera, who is trying to live up to his grandfather’s legacy as a journalist. Abdool Lee and Maurish Dass bring some comedic relief to the series. Though their talents are somewhat wasted on the material.
Veteran actors Pandiarajan and Chinni Jayanth are also part of the cast. Though their characters are somewhat underdeveloped. Vallal, played by Pandiarajan, is supposed to be a somewhat opportunistic relative who supports the protagonist but also has an agenda. His role would have been better utilized to bring some comedic relief to the scenes. Instead, we have him play the role of a narrator.
Nandhitha Sreekumar plays the role of Rani, who is somewhat interesting for a while but is not explored properly.
Positive Aspects
One of the few redeeming qualities of Local Times is the attempt to bring to light the struggles faced by local newspapers in today’s rapidly changing media landscape.
The premise is somewhat interesting, especially since we have the premise of young journalists trying to revive a legacy publication. Some of the lighthearted scenes are somewhat entertaining.

Negative Aspects
Unfortunately, the show suffers from a number of problems. The biggest one is the screenplay. The story loses momentum very early in the show. The comedy is also outdated and repetitive. The jokes and one-liners use a lot of clichés instead of fresh ideas for comedy.
Another major problem is that the show misses an opportunity to show the actual dynamics of a newsroom. The topics such as breaking news, investigative journalism, misinformation, and the digitalization of the media are discussed very late in the show.
The characters that have a lot of potential in the show are poorly written. The audience wants to see more from these characters.
