Kunal Kamra Questions Removal of Satluj From OTT: Satluj, featuring Diljit Dosanjh, has once again brought up the discussion on censorship and artistic freedom in India as the movie got taken down from Zee5. The film, which initially went by the name of Punjab ’95, was finally available for digital streaming despite its prolonged fight with certifications. But within a span of just two days, it vanished from the streaming portal itself.

Questions Raised by Kunal Kamra Over Satluj’s Deletion
The stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra raised some serious questions regarding this matter to the chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Prasoon Joshi. In one of his posts on social media, he enquired about the rationale behind the board recommending around 127 cuts to the film, along with the justification for preventing Indian people from watching a movie on recorded history.
He also stressed the fact that the CBFC does not have jurisdiction over OTT platforms and foreign releases, which made this move of the movie even more bewildering.
The Story Behind Satluj
The Satluj movie has been directed by Honey Trehan and produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies. It is based on the true story of Jaswant Singh Khalra, who was a Sikh human rights activist and revealed the secret executions and forced disappearance cases during Punjab’s insurgency era. This movie stars Diljit Dosanjh in lead roles along with Arjun Rampal and Suvinder Vicky.
The film was initially titled Punjab ’95 but went through a long certification process and got released under the name of Satluj.
Kamra Questions Impact on Filmmakers
Kunal Kamra said that the ban of the movie Satluj sends out a disturbing message to all the filmmakers when they decide to make movies inspired by real-life personalities. He also questioned why some politically sensitive films get easy approval while others take years to be approved.

With discussions about censorship and the right to free expression becoming fiercer than ever before, Satluj emerges as one of the most controversial films released in the past few weeks.
