The plot of Varanasi is set against a thrilling sci-fi adventure. It tells about a historic city called Varanasi, which was at risk of being destroyed by a giant asteroid known as Shambhavi in 2027. The narrative revolves around Rudhra, a rough, adventurous archaeologist. He takes part in an action-packed mission, along with Mandakini, a clever historian and an expert sharpshooter, played by Priyanka Chopra Jonas. According to the latest synopsis, the story involves the exploration of not only Africa and Antarctica but also Europe.
Meanwhile, the main characters fight against the villain named Kumbha. He is portrayed as a sophisticated bad guy and a genius.

Ambitious Project in IMAX
It goes without saying that SS Rajamouli is making one of his most ambitious films so far. Recently, he admitted that Varanasi is going to be primarily filmed in IMAX. On top of that, he noted that the first part of the film is almost done. In particular, the director shared that approximately 80 percent of the shoot was done this year. Rajamouli added that some scenes were especially filmed in Africa for this project. Thus, the locations may include such spectacular places as Kilimanjaro and Maasai Mara. In general, they are likely to make Varanasi stand out.

The makers have planned the film’s release on April 7, 2027. The name of this movie was revealed earlier this year at the Globetrotters event in Hyderabad. Her character Mandakini, in turn, has undoubtedly made the audience anticipate the film even more.
