AKA Charlie Sheen Review: Netflix’s two-part documentary, “AKA Charlie Sheen”, was finally released on September 10, 2025, and it takes viewers on the exciting ride of the chaotic and scandal-filled life of Hollywood actor Charlie Sheen. The documentary tried very hard to bring his struggles with substance abuse and personal controversies to the people, but it falls short in offering deep introspection or genuine remorse. This AKA Charlie Sheen review will tell you how it fell short in so many aspects and what its highlights were.
- Stars: Charlie Sheen, David Moskowitz, Richard Lichter, Sean Penn and others
- Premiere on: Netflix
- Premiere Date: 10th September 2025
- Rating: 2/5
AKA Charlie Sheen Plot
The show, which is directed by Andrew Renzi, is divided into three acts that are titled “Partying”, “Partying with Problems”, and “Just Problems”. It takes the viewers on Sheen’s journey and shows how, once he was a celebrated actor, he had become the second name of controversies due to his reckless behavior.
The show also takes us to his addiction to pills, alcohol, and crack cocaine, and also tells us about his infamous rants about “tiger blood” and “Adonis DNA”. The film revisits some of the most controversial moments in his career as it touches on his public HIV diagnosis in 2015.
However, “AKA Charlie Sheen” tried to be bold with the shocking anecdotes, but it failed due to the lack of any fresh insights. The reason the show feels very repetitive is that its stories have already been extensively covered by the media over the years.
AKA Charlie Sheen Review: Family, Friends, and Fallout
AKA Charlie Sheen’s probably most emotional aspects come when we see the interviews of Sheen’s close family members. His father, Martin Sheen, and brother Emilio Estevez chose not to participate, but every word from his other brother Ramon Sheen, daughter Lola, son Bob, and ex-wives Denise Richards and Brooke Mueller shares honest perspectives and is very emotional to see.
Richards was vocal as she spoke openly about their troubled marriage, and she also discussed the impact of Sheen’s addiction on their family. No matter the hardships, the love from his children was very much visible, and it painted a complex picture of the actor’s personal relationships.

A Light Touch on Serious Allegations
A major criticism of this AKA Charlie Sheen is that the documentary had a very soft approach toward Sheen’s darkest controversies, and it will disappoint a lot of people. The accusations of domestic violence, parental neglect, and exposing partners to HIV are mentioned only briefly, but their meaningful analysis and accountability are missing.
At one point, it felt like the filmmaker gave Sheen significant control over the narrative, and this resulted in a glossy portrayal of his past rather than an unfiltered, hard-hitting examination.
Glimpses of Conflict
Some powerful moments managed to break through, all thanks to the polished storytelling. We are taken to Heidi Fleiss, who is known infamously as “Hollywood Madam”, and she has openly criticized Sheen, and she was seen calling him “the crybaby pussy bitch” for testifying against her in court. Moreover, actor Jon Cryer, who was Sheen’s Two and a Half Men co-star, also expressed his visible frustration due to Sheen’s disruptive behavior on set.
These raw moments are probably the only good point that gives viewers a rare and unfiltered glimpse into the chaos surrounding Sheen’s life.
Baa of Movies Final Verdict
All in all, “AKA Charlie Sheen” was a decent attempt to cover the controversies surrounding Charlie Sheen. However, Charlie’s control over the storyline can be clearly seen because some of his darkest moments were handled very softly. It lacks depth, honesty, and accountability, and it will disappoint the viewers who want to see the truth in the series.
It is strictly for the fans who love watching Hollywood scandals and Sheen’s storied career, but don’t waste your time if you are expecting a real reflection of Charlie Sheen.
