The story takes us to Siva (Santosh Soban), who is an aspiring interior designer from Nellore, and Mithra (Manasa Varanasi), a determined young woman from Chittoor who is waiting for a job opportunity. Both have now relocated to Chennai to pursue independence and career goals.
However, due to unusual circumstances, they have to share a living space. At this time, they are emotionally vulnerable and financially unstable. Their journey started as companionship. However, it slowly turned into a live-in relationship. Together, they are now dealing with the career struggles, loneliness, and societal expectations. The narrative captures the emotional highs and lows of modern love.
Direction and Narrative Strength
Director and writer Ashwin Chandrasekar has done an amazing job to adopt a breezy, slice-of-life narrative style, and it reflects the natural rhythm of relationships. The first half focuses on everyday moments like late-night conversations, professional setbacks, and small victories. But it gradually builds emotional intimacy between the leads.
The story is smartly written, and it takes a dramatic turn after the interval thanks to a major revelation that shifts the tone. The later portions lean toward melodrama and predictability, but it is the director’s restrained storytelling and emotional sensitivity that keep the film engaging and sincere.
Performances and Character Dynamics
Santosh Soban has done an amazing job, delivering a compelling performance. He made Siva’s transformation from an uncertain youth to a responsible individual natural. His dialogue delivery and expressions make the character reasonable.
Manasa Varanasi was needed to bring quiet strength to Mithra. She balanced ambition with emotional sensitivity. The chemistry between the leads is very well executed, as it appears very real and organic.
There are supporting actors like Goparaju Ramana and Rajeev Kanakala who add emotional depth as caring and stubborn fathers.
‘Couple Friendly’ Technical Aspects
Aditya Ravindran has given a breezy soundtrack that works very well to add an emotional texture to the narrative that features soulful melodies that complement the story’s introspective tone.
Cinematographer Dinesh Purushothaman has done a phenomenal job capturing Chennai through rain-soaked streets, busy roads, and terrace views. He presented the city as an invisible witness to the protagonists’ journey.
What Works and What Doesn’t
The film’s biggest strength lies in its mature treatment of relationships and its realistic portrayal of urban struggles. The chemistry between Santosh Soban and Manasa Varanasi stands out. Moreover, the music and Chennai setting effectively enhance the overall experience.
However, the narrative occasionally becomes predictable. The final act of Couple Friendly struggles because here the melodrama takes over. The central conflict is emotionally effective, but it ends up following familiar tropes that are seen in romantic dramas.

All in all, Couple Friendly doesn’t really offer a groundbreaking storyline; however, its emotional authenticity, strong performances, and grounded storytelling make the film a very meaningful romantic drama.
