Explore true event based Korean film Silenced (2011): Hwang Dong-hyuk directed and adapted 2011’s South Korean crime drama film “Silenced,” based on the Gong Ji-young-authored novel “The Crucible,” which is based on the true event of mass sexual abuse with the deaf students at the Gwangju Inhwa School, which hit the big screens on 22 September. Stars of the film are ensemble Gong Yoo, Jung Yu-mi, Kim Hyeon-soo, Jeong In-seo, Jeong In-seo, and others.
After the film was released, it sparked public outrage about the case; as a result, the case was reopened, and investigations began into the unfortunate incidents. The incident eventually reached its way to the National Assembly of South Korea, where a bill also passed in late October 2011 to abolish the statute of limitations for sex crimes against minors and disabled people.

The plot of the film follows the story of Kang In-ho (played by Gong Yoo), who recently joined as an art teacher at Gwangju Inhwa School, which is for deaf students. After he reached there, he slowly realised that students of the school were being physically and sexually abused by the school’s staff (including the principal & teacher). How will he fight to expose the truth with the help of human rights activist Seo Yoo-jin (played by Jung Yu-mi) and bring justice to the victims? This will be showcased through the film.
Following the huge critical and commercial acclaim, over 4 million South Korean moviegoers watched the A-rated film, which is available to watch on OTT giant Netflix in the Korean language with English subtitles. It has a runtime of 124 minutes (2 hours and 4 minutes) and received a remarkable 8 rating on IMDb, based on 24K individual remarks.
