Kalki 2898 AD Plot Analysis
The film is set in the post-apocalyptic mythological world’s last-standing city, Kashi, but the city became ruined due to the majestic Ganga River becoming dry, causing the people of the place to not get proper food and water for survival. Where humans are bought and sold by survival units.
The lord of the city is Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan), who created a new world named Complex, where he runs the mysterious Project-K. The project is based on experiments on women and is led by Commander Manas (Saswata Chatterjee). On the other hand, the people of Shambala are awaiting for God, who will save this world from this merciless Supreme Yaskin. The film shows a strong connection with the Mahabharata, and it’s inspired by Hindu mythology, where the last Avatar of Lord Vishnu will come to an end in Kali Yoga. Who is the main protagonist of the film, Ashwatthama? What is his principal of life? Who is Bhairava? And many more things are going to unfold through the film.
Kalki 2898 AD Movie Review
The first half of the film is a slow space, mainly focused on the main antagonist of the film, Bhairava, and his relationship with his companion Bujji (voiced over by Keerthy Suresh), where Prabhas’s humour, along with his landlord Rajan’s (Brahmanandam) comic timings, entertain the audience side by side in the complex, SUM-80’s (played by Deepika Padukone) pregnancy, and come out from the lab to keep the audience connected. Director Nag Ashwin cleverly unveils the cameos of Mrunal Thakur, Dulquer Salmaan, Ram Gopal Varma and others to continually surprise the audience.
And in the second half, with the stringent arrival of Ashwatthama, to save the SUM-80, alias Sumathi, at any cost, keep the audience on the edge of their seats. Followed by Prabhas’s ego getting hurt after breaking his record of unbeatable by Ashwatthama. The key cameo of the second half is the one and only Vijay Deverakonda, as Arjuna; simultaneously, the makers also unveil Prabhas’s backstory as Karna to hook the audience, which was perfectly suited to the film.
With many positive sides, the film also has a few negative sides, which can make the audience feel more connected. First of all, the length of the film might be cut around 20–25 minutes in the first half, and the first song of the film, the Bhairava Anthem, was unmatched by the circumstances.
Baap of Movies Review
Overall, Nag Ashwin’s direction and plot writing were phenomenal; every character in the film was perfectly portrayed. Djordje Stojiljkovic’s cinematography was top-notch, and Santhosh Narayanan‘s music, especially the BGM, kept the audience connected. The futuristic sci-fi mass entertainer throughout the film shocked the audience with cameos. I am recommending you watch this film to experience the never-before-seen sci-fi film in the history of Indian film.
