Kammattam Web Series Review: ZEE5’s first original Malayalam series, “Kammattam“, was released on September 4, 2025; however, it failed miserably in so many aspects. The six-episode series, which is directed by Shan Thulasidharan and stars Sudev Nair & others, was expected to be bigger. At the time of the release, it was confirmed that Kammattam is based on a real-life incident in Thrissur, and it has the potential to deliver a gripping investigative drama, but it ended up being a 115-minute brain rot. In this Kammattam web series review, we will go through it’s plot, performances, and everything that you need to know.

Kammattam Plot
Kammattam, directed and written by Samuel Oommen, died in a suspicious road accident. SHO Antonio George, who is played by Sudev Nair, gets an opportunity to uncover various layers of deceit and unexpected connections. The premise promises an engaging crime thriller; however, it is the weak writing and lack of freshness that spoils the party for Kammattam.
Kammattam is the story of SHO Antonio George and his team as they are engaged in their biggest challenge while investigating Samuel’s death using limited resources and fragmented clues. The narrative was set, but instead of building tension organically, the series took the linear storytelling and predictable twists that made the investigation less thrilling than expected.

The biggest drawback is the direction because at times the movie feels overstretched; what should be a 40-minute crisp thriller ended up being a 115-minute drag.
Kammattam Web Series Review
Kammattam, when released, had all the potential to become a great entry point for ZEE5 into the Malayalam industry, but poor writing and lackluster execution pulled it down. The show should have focused on exploring innovative angles, but the series sticks to a formulaic, linear structure, which is disappointing. Though you can watch it if you are into watching real-life-based thrillers.

What Works in Kammattam
- Real-life Inspiration – The show will keep those viewers engaged who like watching real-life incidents.
- Compact Runtime – Though at times the film feels stretched, the 115-minute runtime is compact enough to let you watch the entire series in one go.
- Supporting Cast – Kammattam is supported by the talented actors like Arun Sol, Ajay Vasudev, Akhil Kavalayoor, and Jins Bhaskar, who perform reasonably well in their roles.
What Goes Wrong: Missed Opportunities
- Outdated Storytelling – The narrative looks like a mess, and it feels like we are watching some repackaged thriller from the 2000s.
- Predictable Twists – Kammattam’s twist feels so predictable, and the reveal is foreseeable, leaving no room for surprises.
- Weak Dialogues – Dialogue in the investigation is very poor, and it will drag the viewer’s interest while watching the show.
- Sudev Nair’s Performance – Sudev tried his best, but his limited Malayalam fluency was visible throughout, and stiff dialogue delivery reduced the overall impact of the role.

Kammattam Audience Reaction
Though viewers have mixed opinions, most of the Kammattam review is filled with negative opinions. However, there are a few viewers who appreciated ZEE5 for giving an entry to the Malayalam language on its platform, while the majority of the viewers have complained about its pacing, lack of suspense, and outdated treatment.
Baap of Movies Verdict
All in all, Kammattam fails to deliver on its promise. The show had a stronger screenplay, better dialogues, and smarter editing to become one of the biggest Malayalam web series. But, with the poor writing and poor editing, the show feels like a stretched-out micro drama that is struggling to find its identity.
Perfect for an individual who is curious about watching real-life cases; otherwise, it’s better to skip.
