Kannappa Plot Summary
The divine tale revolves around Thinnadu (Vishnu Manchu), a tribal youth who is raised as an atheist, falls in love and marries a girl from his village, Nemali (played by Preity Mukhundhan). His disbelief gradually gives way to raw, unconditional devotion with no knowledge of ritual after he stumbles upon a silent Shiva lingam in a forest. Lord Shiva (played by Akshay Kumar) puts his devotion to an ultimate test, which leads him to an act of powerful sacrifice, converting him from a non-believer to a pure saint.
Kannappa Movie Review

Mukesh Kumar Singh, as director of the film, has done a praiseworthy job in the film, but the emotional and spiritual layers could have been improved. As the story is already familiar to many moviegoers, Vishnu Manchu’s writing could have been more powerful if he focuses on the emotional portion more deeply; notably, the lead Thinnadu’s relationship with his father and wife is underdeveloped.
Sheldon Chau’s cinematography offers a breathtaking experience, especially the forest portions, which are well captured. Anthony, as an editor, has done a neat and clean job. Compared to the production value, the VFX failed to maintain the scale, which slightly impacted the overall experience.
The dynamic Vishnu Manchu as Thinnadu perfectly portrayed his character; his dedication shone on the big screens and injected the soul into both the action and emotional scenes.
Prabhas’ cameo as Rudra is crucial for the film; he adds humour & deep emotion to the plot. Alongside Mohanlal as Kirata, Akshay Kumar & Kajal Aggarwal as Lord Shiva & Goddess Parvati’s cameos are impactful. But supporting roles like Madhubala, Brahmanandam, Preity Mukhundhan, and others could have been used more effectively.
Baap of Movies Verdict on Kannappa
Overall, Kannappa is a Vishnu Manchu’s visually rich devotional tale with a strong second half that significantly outshines its slower first half. The last 40 minutes of the mythological drama deliver a powerful and emotionally satisfying climax, making the film worth watching. It’s a spiritually uplifting experience you can comfortably enjoy with your family.
