Plot Overview
The movie is set against the backdrop of a drought-affected village in Ramanathapuram, where water scarcity is a major problem. The movie focuses on Manivasagar (played by Yogi Babu), a temple priest living in the village. His personal life is already complicated due to the fact that the father of the girl he loves refuses to allow them to get married because he thinks that his daughter cannot live in a village that is experiencing extreme water shortages.
In the attempt to solve the water crisis, the villagers decide to dig a well in front of Manivasagar’s house. Although the attempt to solve the water crisis seems simple, the movie later takes a dramatic turn when a surprising fact is discovered during the digging of the well.
Later, the archaeological department takes over the land, claiming national importance. This move, however, results in tension between the villagers, who claim that their rights are not being respected. The movie later portrays a series of conflicts, including bureaucratic control, political corruption, and the struggles of the villagers.
Cast Performances
The performance by Yogi Babu is genuine in the role of Manivasagar. The actor is known for his comedic performances in movies. His performance in Kenatha Kanom is an attempt at balancing comedy and depth in a film.
Lovelyn Chandrasekhar plays the female lead in the movie. She brings some good dialogues and confidence in her performance. Yet, the script does not allow her to grow as a character.
