Mrs Deshpande Storyline: A Race Against a Copycat Killer
Mrs. Deshpande revolves around a chilling question: can the police stop a serial killer in time? The story takes a start when a dangerous murderer starts recreating the methods of an infamous, imprisoned killer named Mrs Deshpande (Madhuri Dixit-Nene), and then the authorities are forced to seek her help.
Inspector Tejas (Siddharth Chandekar) becomes the key link between the police and the incarcerated killer as he attempts to decode the copycat’s next move. However, the criminal always seems 2 steps ahead. The stakes rise sharply when the killer targets Tejas’s wife, Tanvi. And this turned the investigation into a personal and emotional race against time.
Cast Performances
Mrs. Deshpande Performances: Madhuri Dixit Commands Attention
Madhuri is undoubtedly the series’ biggest draw. She has shown her class as she channels shades of her iconic Anjaam performance. She brought the much-needed intensity and menace to Mrs Deshpande. From the moment she appears, the character is framed as almost mythical. She is shown respect by fellow inmates and treated with wary awe by police officers. The approach works largely due to Madhuri’s screen presence.
Siddharth Chandekar
Interestingly, the show Mrs. Deshpande belongs to Siddharth. As Inspector Tejas, he was very compelling throughout as he delivered a very grounded and emotionally layered performance. Even in episodes where Dixit-Nene is absent, Siddharth keeps the narrative engaging.

Supporting Cast
Priyanshu Chatterjee and Diksha Juneja offer steady support as they add much-needed depth to the ensemble, though their characters don’t always get the writing they deserve.
Strengths: More Human Drama Than Thriller
Mrs. Deshpande was marketed as a thriller, but it works better as a character-driven human drama. The show digs into its key characters through flashbacks. The writer has done a fantastic job, as it explores Tejas’s past and his relationship with his mother. This layered storytelling works very well, as it helps humanize the narrative and add some emotional context to the investigation.
Weaknesses: Where Are the Thrills?
Despite its tight premise, the series suffers from uneven pacing. Mrs. Deshpande suffers because the key twists take far too long to unfold. The six episodes feel longer than necessary. The tension rarely reaches an edge-of-the-seat level, and the narrative is very scattered.
Additionally, the writing could have been better, as it lacked subtlety. Mrs. Deshpande’s backstory could have been chilling, but it is poorly executed. Predictability and a muddled screenplay dilute several potentially powerful ideas. Mrs. Deshpande is a decent package, but in this era where viewers are shifting towards story-based shows, it will be interesting to see how the series works.
Final Verdict: Is Mrs. Deshpande Worth Watching?
In my opinion, Mrs. Deshpande isn’t a bad show, but it’s far from memorable. Though the series has strong performances, especially by Madhuri Dixit-Nene and Siddharth Chandekar, that keep it watchable. But a clunky screenplay and lack of sustained thrills hold it back. If you’re a fan of slow-burn character dramas or Madhuri’s work, then it’s worth a one-time watch. Otherwise, it’s simply more of the same in an already crowded OTT thriller space.
