Retro Censor certificate and Runtime: The dynamic duo Suriya and Pooja Hegde joined hands for the highly anticipated romantic actioner “Retro“, directed and written by Karthik Subbaraj, which is locked to roar in the theatres from 1st May, 2025, onwards. On 17th April, it was cleared by the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification) and awarded a U/A certificate. The plot of the film follows Parivel Kannan (portrayed by Suriya), who, trying to reclaim his lost love Rukmini (Pooja Hegde), showcases the challenges he faces on the way.

On Thursday (17th April) CBFC Chennai passed the romantic actioner entertainer by awarding a U/A certificate and approved the theatrical runtime of 168.30 minutes (2 hours, 48 minutes, and 30 seconds) under the examining officer D BALAMURALI.
The makers were instructed to mute or modify the words” “Fu*k, Oththa, Oppana ozhi, Lavda, Bastards, Arippa, Pudungi, Vakkaali, Twat, Suck the duck and Mayiru” and also reported in 3-4 places – the word “Mayiru” is allowed to be retained. Following that, the static smoking disclaimer must be displayed wherever it is missing, side by side with a liquor brand name removed at the time of 17.15 minutes. The bloody, stabbing and violation visuals in some sequences trimmed around 34 seconds of runtime.

The Tamil actioner was directed and written by Karthik Subbaraj and backed by Kaarthekeyen Santhanam, Jyothika & Suriya, and stars are teamed up with the film, including the leads Suriya & Hegde, Joju George, Jayaram, Nassar and others. It’s all set to hit the big screens on 1st May, under the banners of Stone Bench Creations and 2D Entertainment.
