‘Subedaar’ Movie Review (2026): The Prime Video original “Subedaar” brings to the forefront an intense and emotional action movie with Anil Kapoor in one of his most subdued roles in recent times. The movie, directed by Suresh Triveni, deals with issues like corruption and abuse of power in society and the emotional toll that a lifetime of service to one’s nation takes on one’s personal life.
The movie has all the ingredients to be an intense movie with its gripping plot and strong performances, but it’s the disjointed narrative that somewhat takes the edge off.

‘Subedaar’ Movie Plot
The movie deals with the story of Subedaar Arjun Maurya (Anil Kapoor), a disciplined army man returning to his native town after serving his nation for years. Life has been cruel to him, as he has lost his beloved wife, Sudha, and has a strained relationship with his daughter, Shyama (Radhika Madan).
One of the most emotional moments in the movie comes when Arjun finds out that his wife Sudha has secretly booked a bright red Gipsy for him through her sales of homemade achaar to fulfil his long-cherished dream of owning one. For Arjun, the car becomes symbolic of his love and regret at moments he was denied with his wife. But things take a turn for the worse when one prince damages his prized possession and tries to intimidate him.
Arjun decides to take things in stride at first but finds himself at war with the system when he is subjected to political pressure and humiliation at the hands of criminals and wrongdoers in society.
Cast Performances
Anil Kapoor is the main attraction on screen in the role of Arjun Maurya, and he delivers a performance that is more expression-based rather than dialogue-based.
Supporting him well are Mona Singh, Faisal Malik, and Saurabh Shukla, all of whom add value to the film with their performance.
Positive Aspects
The biggest strength in this review of the Subedaar film is its performance. Anil Kapoor’s performance, though low on dialogue, is high on expression and body language, and that is what makes him look so believable and human on screen. The action scenes are crisp and look very realistic.
The music and background score are noteworthy for their originality. Moreover, the cinematography is excellent in its depiction of the town and its socio-political setting.

Negative Aspects
Subedaar has a very compelling premise, but the film struggles due to a meandering plot. While Shyama’s personal struggles and her complicated relationship with her father are important subplots, they go on for a little too long. The climax is also excessively long, which makes the final twist and cameo somewhat less impactful.
Direction
Suresh Triveni should be commended for trying something different in an action drama genre where subtlety is key. His take on anger, loss, and moral dilemmas is a far cry from loud action movies. However, the screenplay falters in some places where emotional scenes go on for a little too long.
Verdict
Overall, Suresh Triveni-helmed and penned ‘Subedaar’ is an emotionally charged action drama that is mostly fueled by the veteran actor Anil Kapoor’s powerful performance. However, despite a solid performance by the lead, the movie suffers from a slow and slightly uneven narrative.
