The Bengal Files Unofficially Banned in Bengal: Vivek Agnihotri’s much-controversial upcoming film “The Bengal Files” is under the spotlight again; this time producer Pallavi Joshi has written a letter to President of India Droupadi Murmu to unban the film in West Bengal. The film has its release date on September 5, 2025, and despite so much controversy around it, the film is unable to get any shows in West Bengal. What’s the complete news? Whether The Bengal Files will be released in West Bengal, we shall find out today.
Pallavi Joshi’s Appeal to President Murmu
On September 4th, 2025, Pallavi Joshi took to Instagram to share her open letter to President Murmu, where she was visibly upset at her film The Bengal Files not getting enough shows in West Bengal. She expressed her deep concern. She says that the multiplexes in West Bengal are not putting on The Bengal Files’ shows because of the pressure from the political parties. Joshi aggressively pointed out that this action is a violation of her constitutional rights, and she seeks immediate support from the President.
Joshi was pleading for the president’s support, not for favoring the film, but for protecting the truth and space for the art. Pallavi Joshi also didn’t hold back against the sitting CM of West Bengal, as she criticized her for making the film even before the release, highlighting the hatred towards the film. And, after that, FIRs were filed, the trailer was blocked by police, and a lot of things happened against The Bengal Files.
The Bengal Files Unofficially Banned in Bengal: Allegations of Political Pressure
The controversy reached new heights when a few multiplex owners allegedly claimed that they would be threatened with violence if they screened The Bengal Files in West Bengal. Joshi calls this action an “unofficial ban”.
Pallavi Joshi has also highlighted that her family is not feeling safe because they are receiving constant threats from political party workers. She appealed to President Murmu and also tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to help The Bengal Files get a smooth release.
The Film Fraternity’s Support to The Bengal Files

Padma Bhushan awardee actor Victor Banerjee and several other Bengali organizations in India and abroad have come forward to ensure support towards The Bengal Files. Pallavi Joshi says that The Bengal Files is more than just a film because, according to her, it is a voice of truth, survival, and resilience.
She also mentioned her constitutional rights, and also she has every right to push her film in every part of the country as it holds a CBFC certification, and no political parties should stop it.

Conclusion
All in all, West Bengal is very important for The Bengal Files to get good numbers at the box office.
