‘The Boys’ Season 5 Review: Amazon Prime Video’s original “The Boys Season 5” is the finale season of one of the boldest parodies about superheroes on TV. Created by Eric Kripke, fans of the series can look forward to the upcoming episodes following the exciting events from the previous one. It has been streamed on Prime Video with two episodes, which are already promising to conclude the series with a spectacular finish. Even though it has the usual humor and surprises, Season 5 fails to combine its aspirations with a coherent plotline.
The titles of the two episodes are:
- Episode 1: Fifteen Inches of Sheer Dynamite
- Episode 2: Teenage Kix

Plot Summary
The plot is set in a political environment where Homelander (Antony Starr) increases his power while the opposing party, represented by the Starlighters, fights against him. Additionally, Butcher is preparing for his last big plan that includes using a deadly disease against Supes to end their rule in society.
The new characters such as The Worm, Oh Father, Teenage Kix, and others add some satirical touches related to modern pop culture, including media influence, religious manipulation, and influencer culture. Still, there are too many plots within the storyline that lack proper development.
Cast Performance
Performances still make one of the most impressive parts of the series. As for Homelander, Antony Starr is once again outstanding in playing the part; his character impresses both with menace and charisma. Another remarkable performance of Karl Urban, who plays Billy Butcher, is inconsistent enough this season.
As for Erin Moriarty (Starlight) and Jack Quaid (Hughie), there is a lack of impressive performances by the two of them, which makes the series less emotional. Chace Crawford (The Deep) and Colby Minifie (Ashley Barrett) give brilliant support performances and satire through their characters.

Positive Aspects
There is nothing better than the great satirical side of Season 5. One can easily spot the reflection of today’s politics, media industry, and celebrity society in the series. The creation of new Supes that are completely weird and bizarre makes the viewing experience entertaining.
The show manages to be hilarious, albeit darkly so, and, quite a few times, outrageous. Self-awareness and humor revolving around the difficulty of creating a good finale add an extra level of entertainment that will surely be enjoyed by fans.
Negative Aspects
Although there are a number of advantages to this season, it still features some severe problems, namely, writing ones. The plot is overly complex and tries to juggle too many things at the same time. Character development becomes worse than usual for more than one reason, since some of the main characters follow the same old path in their story arcs.
Moreover, Butcher’s character seems to be very inconsistent and confusing. As far as Hughie’s story is concerned, he no longer has any special chemistry with Starlight. Some parts of the dialogue sound repetitive and forced, and the humor seems out-of-place during serious scenes.

Final Verdict
Not entirely able to “land the plane”, the first 2 episodes of season 5, ‘The Boys’, nevertheless entertain the viewer in terms of the series’ overall arc. The Boys is, ultimately, true to itself despite failing to end as planned.
