As the children are lost, police investigations start, and Justine’s suspicions turn toward Alex’s home. As the film moves forward, the truth unfolds in overlapping story segments. However, the truth is different, as Alex’s mind is behind all this. Alex’s parents are already under her control, and they are obediently sitting in the house all day as Alex hand-feeds them soup.
Gladys (Alex’s aunt) manipulates Alex into helping her abduct his classmates with the help of personal items from their school cubbies for a ritual. The children are hidden in the basement, and they are afraid and unmoving. Gladys, on the other hand, hides behind a facade of a caring aunt when questioned by police and sends the children to the woods temporarily during searches.

Gladys uses her magic to turn people into mindless killers, and this scene gives the title Weapons a literal meaning. And, nobody is saved from her magic, as Principal Marcus (Benedict Wong) murders his partner and attempts to kill Justine; he is sprinting unnaturally in the same style the children used when leaving their homes. Lastly, a violent struggle ensues as Justine resorts to skinning Paul’s face with a vegetable peeler in one of the film’s most graphic moments.

Upstairs, we see that Alex takes matters into his own hands and crosses a protective salt line that causes his possessed parents to attack him. It acted as a distraction that left Gladys vulnerable. Now, Alex uses her hair to redirect the enchanted children toward her. The possessed kids hunt Gladys down and ultimately tear her apart in a gruesome climax. Now, as Gladys is dead, her control softens over her city. Every unusual activity stops, but the damage is lasting: the children, including Matthew, stand silently in a circle around Gladys’ remains, and he is unresponsive to those who love them.
A Haunting Resolution
Then we have an epilogue, which is narrated by the older child, and here we learn that Alex’s parents are institutionalised, and due to this, Alex goes to live with a kinder relative. Archer walks away carrying Matthew, and we hear that some of the children are speaking again. The Weapons ending reinforces the film’s allegorical link to the long-term trauma of school shootings. After this trauma, some survivors recover partially; however, others never fully return to normal.

Do Weapons Have a Post-Credit Scene?
The Weapons post-credit scene is also widely discussed. To the fans who are wondering whether to stay after the credits, you can rest easy because Weapons does not have a mid- or post-credits scene. However, the end credits are visually distinctive, and the opening credits roll over a growing triangle symbol, which is associated with Gladys. Later, the text scrolls diagonally along the edges of the triangle, which is very different from the usual bottom-to-top movement.
