Diljit Dosanjh’s ‘Satluj’ Removed From ZEE5: ‘Satluj,’ the biographical drama from Diljit Dosanjh that stirred a lot of controversies, now finds itself right in the middle of yet another controversy, with the film getting pulled down from the Indian streaming platform ZEE5 only two days after its surprise digital premiere. Satluj, which made a premiere on July 3, got pulled down by the streaming website due to “current developments.”
‘ZEE5’ Confirms ‘Satluj’ Removal From India
As per a statement released by ZEE5, the streaming website expressed gratitude to the audience for their incredible response to the film while announcing the unavailability of Satluj in India. “Exploring all avenues to make ‘Satluj’ available for Indian audiences,” read ZEE5’s statement.
Why Is ‘Satluj’ Censored in India?
This comes amidst the film’s struggle with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) regarding certification. With 127 suggested cuts, which include removing scenes of police brutality, Punjab from the dialogue, and also the actual name of the character, the film, which initially had the title Panjab ’95, was renamed “Ghalughara”.
Director Honey Trehan has raised objections about the massive alterations that have been demanded by the CBFC and asked why this film, which is available in many parts of the world, has kept facing issues in India. It seems that according to the director, the film has received great reviews around the world despite the issue of censorship at home.

Diljit Dosanjh Reacts To The OTT Ban
However, it is quite interesting that Dosanjh himself had already said that the availability of the film in India would not last for long. While addressing the fans through an Instagram live stream after the premiere of the film, the actor had said that he would not be surprised at all if Satluj was soon banned. Dosanjh even encouraged the fans to download the film since it would soon not be available anymore.
After the ban on the film was announced, Dosanjh released a message where he compared the censorship of the film to the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra, the human rights activist on whose life story the film is based.
