I’m Not Afraid Plot
In 1986, we see Miguel (Aldo Emiliano Navarro), a lively ten-year-old kid who enjoys playing football and hanging out with his friends. However, everything is about to change for him as he stumbles upon Felipe, another kid that has been kidnapped and locked in a pit.
Taking place in a village on the verge of poverty due to a failed coffee harvest, the series tells a sad story of how hopelessness can turn an ordinary person into something completely different. What starts as a mystery quickly becomes a touching coming-of-age story.

Cast Performances
Aldo Emiliano Navarro offers an exceptional acting role as Miguel. The character is full of innocence, curiosity, fear, and the emotional fortitude to survive the ordeal. All emotions felt real.
The young actor, Yago Andreu Sandoval, playing Felipe, also offers something memorable, even though he does not have much dialogue. The vulnerability of the silent pain is the emotional essence of the TV series.
The rest of the actors are quite believable as morally corrupt adults who are driven by their desperation to commit unthinkable acts. They do not make one-dimensional villains with their acting.
Positive Aspects
The biggest advantage of I’m Not Afraid is the plot. It always keeps the point of view of the main hero—Miguel.
The gradual screenplay progressively creates tension and then surprises the viewers with shocking developments that are emotionally moving.
The camerawork brilliantly showcases the serene surroundings of Mexico’s countryside and juxtaposes it with the dark side that lies beneath the calm exterior.

Negative Aspects
The series consciously sets out at a slow pace that might bore some viewers who anticipate a quick-paced drama. The first couple of episodes are mainly concentrated on setting up the story rather than revealing the mystery.
Some of the minor characters might have required more backstory development, especially regarding their tough decisions in life. There are other story lines that have deliberately been left open-ended, a situation that may polarize people expecting clear conclusions to these storylines.
Final Verdict
“I’m Not Afraid” is a very touching series that portrays the struggle of children growing up in difficult situations. It is a suspenseful thriller in disguise with a sad story, great performances from child actors, wonderful directing, and thought-provoking themes.
For those who love dramas that are full of emotions and performances that you will not forget easily, “I’m Not Afraid” is a must-see.
