Swatantrya Veer Savarkar Plot Analysis
The film spotlights the character Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s (Randeep Hooda) life journey from the early 1900s to his death, who chose the way of violence for freedom. Savarkar formed the Abhinav Bharat and also left a strong impact by supporting boycotting British clothes, which impressed Lokmanya Tilak. He was a phenomenal student at his university, and Lokmanya Tilak sponsored him to complete his law degree in Great Britain.
When he saw how his ideology of violence for freedom impacted the young revolutionaries—it was not appearing in the newspapers in India, and there were no big discussions—he got arrested himself and was sent to Kala Pani, where he faced a difficult chapter of his life for the country. Despite that, he continues to raise his voice against the British, where he also meets with his elder brother.
Swatantrya Veer Savarkar Movie review: is it truth or Propaganda?
One of the finest actors, Randeep Hooda’s directorial debut film, proves that he is not only a good actor but also a phenomenal director. In the film, we see various looks of Randeep as Veer Savarkar, and in every look, he matches himself with perfection, whether it is the young Savarkar or the Savarkar Kala Pani. The Kala Pani transformation is just inspiring. Ankita Lokhande as Savarkar’s wife Yamuna delivers a powerful performance, and the other characters including Amit Sial and Mark Bennington are well presented.
In every portion of the film, when Veer Savarkar faces Gandhi Ji, it shows that he does not have moral values, which makes the audience feel like it is propaganda. The first half of the film is slow, but after the second half’s Kaala Paani portion begins, it keeps the audience engaged with the story. Arvind Krishna’s cinematography was well crafted, but in the first half, the camera angles were not perfectly executed. Kamesh Karna and Rajesh Pandey’s editing work is excellent.
Baap of Movies Verdict
Overall, Randeep Hooda takes his acting level a step ahead through the clap-worthy biography drama, with his execution also receiving immense praise from the audience. If you love to watch biography films, this is a masterpiece based on the Indian freedom fighter and reformer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
