According to the industry tracker Sacnilk.com report, Mohanlal’s inaugural film in 2025, L2: Empuraan, a sequel to 2019’s Lucifer, till 26th March, 3:02 PM IST, has sold a humongous 489,266 tickets nationwide, resulting in a gross of Rs 9.39 Cr from 9689 shows. Out of the number, the majority of the number belongs to the Malayalam 2D format alone, which sold 436927 tickets, contributing Rs 8.18 Cr; and the Malayalam IMAX 2D format sold 11379 tickets, grossing Rs 63.42 Cr.
The Hindi version of the film is poised for a strong opening three-day run; however, starting March 30th, it will face a high-stakes clash with Salman Khan’s Sikandar, a pivotal moment that could determine its diminishment in the Hindi market. The phenomenal box office trend is hinting that in the opening quarter of 2025, it is gearing up for a high opening day record, in the range of Rs 35-40 Cr net in India, which will be tough to defeat by the upcoming Mollywood films.
