Episode 2 puts Dunk at a crossroads. Mournful of the death of Ser Arlan, Dunk enters Ashford Castle pursuing one aim. He wants to prove himself worthy of being called a knight. Princes Baelor and Maekar bring royal dignity to the tournament from the onset and increase the stakes of the event immediately. Baelor is the wise and wise-eyed Hand of the King, and she makes a remarkable contrast to Maekar’s sternness and the sheer conceitedness of Aerion, his son.
The issue here is the validation that Dunk is trying to find in relation to his knighthood.
