Border 2 takes us to the 1971 Indo-Pak war, and it expands the scope of the original. Border 2 follows three inseparable friends: Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya (Indian Army) – Varun Dhawan, Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon (Indian Air Force) – Diljit Dosanjh, and Lt Cdr Mahendra S. Rawat (Indian Navy) – Ahan Shetty.
Their bonds were forged at the National War Academy. On the day of one’s wedding, duty calls, tearing them away to three dangerous fronts: Jammu, Srinagar, and the Gujarat coast. The soldiers face overwhelming odds as enemy forces prepare coordinated attacks across India’s western borders under the guidance of their mentor, Lt Col Fateh Singh Kaler – Sunny Deol.
The story is typically a celebration of courage, brotherhood, and the unbreakable spirit of India’s armed forces.
Border 2 Performances: Who Shines the Brightest
Sunny Deol is undeniably the beating heart of Border 2. He connects with the very first frame and continues to win the screen till the final act. His screen presence commands attention. His thunderous dialogues and righteous intensity bring nostalgia, and they will get a lot of whistles in theatres.
Varun Dhawan is finally back, and he has given a surprising and commendable performance. He brought vulnerability and fire to his role. He somewhat steals the show in several key moments.
Diljit Dosanjh adds warmth and charm. He tried balancing the heavy war narrative with lighter moments and effortless comic timing, but sometimes he felt off track. Ahan Shetty continues his upward trajectory and has given a very sincere and confident performance.
The female cast that includes Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Medha Rana, and Anya Singh make their presence felt, but they were overshadowed in a male-dominated war drama.
Positive Aspects in Border 2
- Border 2 features a grand war sequence that is mounted on a massive scale with intense ground and aerial combat.
- The powerful dialogues in the film land perfectly, and it sounds patriotic without crossing into excessive jingoism.

- Border 2 sometimes feels repetitive with the same old-school deshbhakti formula.
- Loud sound design, though it works well in many parts, but sometimes it feels overwhelming.
- There is a major VFX problem because uneven VFX quality can be noticed in a few sequences.
- The runtime could have been tighter, especially in the second half.
Technical Aspects and Direction
Director Anurag Singh has done an excellent job to successfully balance spectacle with sentiment. The action never feels hollow, and it consistently serves the story and the emotional stakes of the soldiers. With that being said, the film is not flawless. But Border 2’s sincerity and scale work very well to overcome its shortcomings.
