Mumbai, September 18, 2026: In a remarkable moment for Marathi cinema, the Film Federation of India (FFI) has selected the Kishor Kadam starrer thriller “Gondhal” as the official pick for the 99th Academy Awards (Oscars 2027). Directed and written by Santosh Davakhar, the acclaimed film will represent the nation in the highly competitive Best International Feature Film category on the world’s biggest award stage.
Gondhal’s Previous Achievements
Davakhar Films produced the 2025 release ‘Gondhal’ ahead of India’s Oscar 2027 selection; it achieved the IFFI Award for Best Director in the Silver Peacock category. This prestigious accolade pays much praise not only for the film’s artistic brilliance but also for the huge achievement for the Marathi industry.
Notably, Gondhal marks the fourth Marathi movie chosen to represent India at the Oscar, following iconic films ‘Shwaas’ (2005), ‘Harishchandrachi Factory’ (2009), and ‘Court’ (2015).

The Marathi thriller was written and directed by Santosh Davakhar and produced by Diksha Davakhar. Featuring an ensemble with the film are Ishita Deshmukh, Yogesh Sohoni, Kishor Kadam, Suresh Vishwakarma, Nishad Bhoir, Anuj Prabhu, and Vitthal Kale in key roles. Amalendu Chaudhary handled the cinematography, edited by Ashish Mhatre, and the music was composed by the legendary Ilaiyaraaja.
