Hostage Series Storyline

Hostage takes us to Abigail Dalton (Suranne Jones), who is a rising British politician, and she wants to be the prime minister. At the start, we see how Abigail weighs the consequences of leadership on her family, especially the effect of her career on her husband, Alex (Ashley Thomas), and their daughter. However, as the show moves forward, we see how Abigail’s political ambitions soon collide with personal crises.
Now, Alex is kidnapped, and the kidnappers are asking for Abigail’s resignation in exchange for Alex’s safe return. This scene sets up the show as it powered the sequential chain of chaotic events. Later, French president Vivienne Toussaint (Julie Delpy) falls into trouble as her past resurfaces, and this threatens her position and her country’s diplomatic relations.
Hostage shows us the underground meetings and high-profile negotiations and other important aspects of politics. However, with such a strong setup, at times it feels the execution could be less dramatic, with some plotlines stretching believability.

Hostage Netflix Series Review: Why is it a must watch?
The biggest strength of the Hostage Netflix series lies in its stellar casting and their compelling performances. Suranne Jones will win your heart with her convincing portrayal of Abigail as she perfectly displayed the role of a conflicted yet determined leader. On the other hand, Julie Delpy wins the screen with her cold elegance and strategic prowess.

The show’s other highlight lies in its approach to female-led power dynamics, as this is very much different from the conventional political dramas where women are sidelined or victimized. Moreover, the cinematography, production design, and costuming further elevate the viewing experience and make this show worth watching.
Hostage Shortcomings
Hostage, though, has a promising concept and start cast, but it felt short in its Hostage drama storyline. The script looks very predictable, and it occasionally sacrifices realism for exaggerated tension, and there are a lot of “jump-the-shark” moments. There are visible security lapses and questionable motives behind large-scale conspiracies, which are very far from logic. Moreover, the pacing in the middle episodes slows down, as there are too many subplots competing for attention.
