On Saturday, August 29, Ritesh Sidhwani & Farhan Akhtar-backed, much-awaited “Mirzapur: The Movie” has officially passed by the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification). The film got approval for more than 3 hours of runtime. Reportedly, during the censorship, 35 seconds of intimate scenes were deleted. Read below the detailed report.
The film marks the theatrical adaptation of the popular Prime Video series of the same title. Starring Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Jitendra Kumar, Ravi Kishan, Abhishek Banerjee, Rasika Dugal, and others, the film is headed to release on big screens on 4 September 2026.
Mirzapur The Movie Gets ‘A’ Certificate From CBFC
Gurmmeet Singh directed Mirzapur: The movie officially passed the censor formalities and has been awarded ‘A‘ certification and received a theatrical runtime of 3 hours, 17 minutes, and 19 seconds. This runtime makes it a lengthy big-screen entry.
Mirzapur The Movie CBFC Cuts
According to Bollywood Hungama, the CBFC asked for multiple cuts before approving the certification. As per the report, the cuss words were muted at 4 places, alongside the abusive words in 6 places, which were also changed to appropriate’ words. The ‘Galey se lag gar’ dialogue has also been modified.
In terms of visual cuts, the CBFC asked to reduce intimate scenes by 50% with a suitable replacement in visuals and sound. This change was made in both the first half and the second half, which is the reason 35 seconds of intimate scenes were reduced.
In the first half an inappropriate word was replaced with ‘kamar,’ and in the second half the word ‘lanth‘ (meaning idiot) was also modified.
It’s worth adding that, interestingly, there were no changes in not a single violent and gory scene by the CBFC. After completing these cuts, the censor boards hand the ‘A’ certificate to the makers of Mirzapur The Movie.
