Parasakthi Movie Review (2026): Sivakarthikeyan’s much-anticipated historical drama “Parasakthi” finally arrived in theatres on January 10, 2026, during Sankranthi, and this happened after clearing the Central Board of Film Certification with several mandated cuts. The movie, which was directed by Sudha Kongara, already holds enough buzz due to its political themes, period setting, and strong ensemble cast. Parasakhti Plot Overview
Paraksathi takes us to anti-Hindi agitations and the assertion of Tamil identity. From the story, it attempts to present the blend of politics, personal conflict, romance, and action within a historical framework. The film plunges straight into its period setting and establishes the political climate and ideological tensions early on.
However, the movie, which soon started as a promising narrative, slows down. The first half is very poor, as it appears as if it is consumed by extended sequences and a romantic subplot that many viewers felt added little to the core story. The interval offers some hope. However, the second half struggles to regain momentum that leads to a climax that feels rushed and emotionally underwhelming.
Parasakhti Cast Performances
Sivakarthikeyan was balanced in a more serious, politically driven role. He did his best while moving away from his usual commercial comfort zone. His commitment is evident, but Mathimaran Pugazhendhi’s poor writing doesn’t always give him enough depth to truly shine.
Ravi Mohan (Jayam Ravi) was the film’s biggest strength. He steals the show for the show as the antagonist.
Atharvaa as Chinnadurai also earns appreciation, as he delivered one of the best performances of his career that brought intensity and conviction to his role.
Sreeleela is underutilized, and her character largely exists within the film’s weaker romantic portions.

Positive Aspects
Parasakthi’s major positive is its ambition. Sudha Kongara was visionary, and her idea to tackle politically charged themes within a mainstream historical drama deserves credit. The film has authentic-looking sets, period costumes, and solid production design that effectively recreate the era.
G.V. Prakash Kumar’s music worked very well to add the much-needed emotional weight in parts. The supporting cast, in the form of Ravi Mohan and Atharvaa, worked very well to elevate several scenes through strong performances.
Negative Aspects
The biggest drawback of Parasakthi is its pacing. The first half is very poor, and it is receiving widespread criticism for being dull, overlong, and lacking emotional engagement. The narrative feels flat, and it has very minimal dramatic highs to hold audience attention.
The second half should have delivered the film’s strongest punches, but with the poor writing, it ends up feeling disjointed and hurried. Additionally, the CBFC-mandated cuts and perceived inconsistencies in language versions prevented the film’s release and added to audience dissatisfaction.

Final Verdict
All in all, Parasakthi is a film that tries to dream big but ultimately falls short of its promise. There are moments of brilliance, strong performances, and a socially relevant core that cannot be denied, but the execution was very poor.
