Opposite to Kaali, Malpe Upendra is a powerful and wealthy hitman based in Goa.

Performances: Arun Vijay Anchors the Film

Arun Vijay has done a good job, and he looked very committed in his performance of both Kaali and Upendra. He brought physical intensity and screen presence to both roles. However, the film offers minimal visual or emotional distinction between the two characters. Siddhi Idnani’s Antre was very poor. She was very pragmatic and materialistic, but the writing spoilt the party, as it limited the emotional complexity she could have brought to the narrative.
What’s Good in Retta Thala
The biggest strength of Retta Thala is its stylish making. The action sequences are sleek and well-choreographed, and it is well supported by atmospheric cinematography that enhances the film’s gritty tone. Arun Vijay’s dedication deserves applause, as he effortlessly portrayed the role of two contrasting lives that adds credibility to the premise, even when the script falters.
The background score is decent, and it works effectively to elevate tension in crucial moments, and the film throughout maintains a consistent pace in its action-heavy stretches. Visually, Retta Thala looks far more ambitious than an average OTT action thriller, and that’s why it feels very engaging on a surface level.

Negative Sides in Retta Thala
Retta Thala hugely disappoints in its shallow writing and confused intentions. The film never fully commits to the theme. Sometimes, it wants to explore a toxic, money-driven relationship or a psychological duel between two identical men. As a result, both ideas didn’t really click, and it remains underdeveloped.
Character motivations change abruptly. Emotional consequences are rushed, and key themes such as the idea that desire leads to suffering need much more exploration. beyond dialogue and an end-card message. Upendra’s backstory is revealed in fragments, and it lacks depth, and that’s what makes him feel more like a plot device and not just a fully realized character.
Retta Thala OTT Verdict
All in all, in this Retta Thala OTT review, we conclude that the film is a missed opportunity. The film had strong factors like a strong premise, a capable cast, and impressive technical execution, but due to weak scripting and an unfocused narrative, Retta Thala’s impact feels diluted.
Retta Thala is that movie that chooses style over substance, which will leave viewers entertained in parts but emotionally unmoved by the end.
