Ronkini Bhavan Plot: A House of Dark Legacies

The story takes us to Juthika (played by Shyamoupti Mudly), who is a young bride who moves into her husband Adityanath’s (played by Gourab Roy Chowdhury) ancestral home as the titular Ronkini Bhavan. Her arrival is immediately followed by tragedy as the family patriarch passes away.
Soon after the death, Juthika tries to settle in, but she uncovers a chilling story: a “secret curse” surrounding the mythical Goddess Ronkini. The myth claims the lives of newlywed brides in the family. The narrative soon shifts into a high-stakes mystery as Juthika, with the help of a friend in the police force.
A Hidden Remake?
After watching the show, it feels like Ronkini Bhavan has its connection to other regional content. The show is marketed as a fresh ZEE5 Original, but it bears a striking resemblance to the Kannada series Ayyana Mane (also available on ZEE5). Ronkini Bhavan has its similarities to the Canadian series Ananya Maye, which suggests that it may be an uncredited remake.
If you haven’t seen the original iterations, then the Ronkini Bhavan story offers a fresh, localized take on inherited trauma and family horrors.

Cast Performances and Highlights
Roniki Bhavan marks the OTT debut for lead actors Shyamoupti Mudly and Gourab Roy Chowdhury. Both of them are excellent, as they both delivered grounded performances that anchor the show’s more fantastical elements.
- Shyamoupti Mudly (Juthika) is excellent, as she effectively portrayed a woman who is caught between skepticism and the growing reality of the dangers around her.
- Gourab Roy Chowdhury (Adityanath) is very good. He brings a layered performance as the husband tied to his family’s dark past.
- Bidipta Chakraborty (Padmavati) is seen in the role of the family matriarch, which adds significant emotional depth and a touch of ambiguity to the household.
Critical Analysis

Positive Aspects
The series makes excellent use of the “ancient zamindar house” trope, and it successfully managed to create a sense of claustrophobia and unease. The plot moves at a brisk pace that involves five deaths occurring in rapid succession to keep the stakes high. The “cursed bride” theme is a familiar one in horror, but thanks to the integration of local Bengali folklore, Roniki Bhavan carries a unique flavor to the production.
Negative Aspects
Ronkini Bhavan is very good, but its “killer reveal” may feel somewhat predictable to seasoned fans of the psychological thriller genre. Most of the series’ tension relies on whether the viewer has seen the source material this series is based on. It is best suited for newcomers, who didn’t watch Ananya Maye. But those who are familiar with the original may find fewer surprises.
Final Verdict: Should You Watch It?
All in all, Ronkini Bhavan has come forward as a solid entry for viewers who enjoy slow-burn psychological thrillers with a supernatural edge. The show may feel familiar to those who have seen the source material it remakes. But, due to the strong performances by the cast and the pinpoint direction by Abhrajit Sen, Ronkini Bhavan is surely a worthwhile watch for the holiday season.
