‘The Testaments’ Series Review (2026): The much-anticipated adaptation of “The Testaments“, authored by Margaret Atwood, has arrived with 3 episodes on Hulu and Disney+, and it is released with very high expectations, following the global success of “The Handmaid’s Tale”. But is the series actually worth it? Well, ‘The Testament’, which is based on Margaret Atwood’s Booker Prize-winning sequel, attempts to both honor and reinvent its predecessor.

Plot Overview
The Testament takes viewers to the oppressive world of Gilead, and the story of the show is centered on Agnes Mackenzie (Chase Infiniti). She is a privileged girl, now being groomed for marriage within a rigid, patriarchal system. Her life takes a turn as soon as she meets Daisy. Daisy is shown as a mysterious newcomer from Canada who is hiding dangerous secrets.
The Testaments is unlike its previous parts that followed a resistance-heavy narrative because this series tries to shift focus to elite young women who are largely unaware of the brutality sustaining their society. This change was important, as it will bring a fresh perspective, and it will also soften the grim intensity that defined the original.

Cast Performance
The performances are one of the show’s strongest assets. However, the actress who really shines in this adaptation is Lucy Halliday as Daisy. In addition, The Testaments manages to successfully adapt the plot for a young audience by featuring adolescent protagonists. This way, viewers can experience some of the most interesting concepts behind the series as part of their coming-of-age experience.
Finally, the series continues its tradition of commenting on pressing socio-political issues.
What Falls Short
However, the change in tone becomes the show’s major disadvantage. Through adopting the young adult genre approach, it loses its depth at some points, and viewers may miss the psychological tension that characterized Gilead. Characterization is inconsistent since, while Daisy is captivating, Agnes’s storyline is not as powerful. In addition, the pace is not consistent with the series moving faster in vital parts but slower in unimportant parts.
Additionally, existing fans may view it as tame. It does not break boundaries like its precursor; rather, it plays safe for commercial reasons.
Final Verdict
The Testaments is not the best sequel, but it is still a good one. Instead of delivering intense and deep content, it chooses style and accessibility. Unlike The Handmaid’s Tale, which was a revolution, this one is introspective and offers another look at Gilead. Even though the new adaptation is not as dark and intense as its predecessor, it still has something to offer.
Overall, it is an entertaining series. Therefore, if you do not expect a revolution, it will make a great watch.
