John Abraham’s action drama Vedaa first twitter reviews a positive!
Vedaa – An action entertainer with a meaning.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The film is much beyond what you see in the trailer. A lot is packed in there and what stands out the most is the subject, performances, action and very importantly, the dialogues. In fact the film works so very well because #NikkhilAdvani paces the film quite well with the right holds and releases in the narrative.
So just when you especially the drama to explode, he holds back the punches, only to unleash them when you know that all patience is lost at a certain point in time. This is where one has to commend #JohnAbraham for delivering his career best performance. He lets his silences speak so strong (watch the scene where he applies first aid to #Sharvari and lets his face do the talking), then utters minimal dialogues in the terrific interval block (what a sequence with #AbhishekBanerjee) and then goes fill throttle in the last 30 mins.
It’s not just the chases, hand-to-hand combats and gun fights that dominate the proceedings, especially in the first half; it’s also the powerful dialogues that are at the centerstage in #Vedaa, especially in the second half. That’s what elevates the mood of the film and keeps you hooked on screen.
What could have been better? Well, I feel the first half, especially the first 30 mins, could have been paces better. There is a lot of simmering energy in there, which is alright, but then at times it feels that the narrative is paused, especially around #Sharvari’s quest of boxing. It could well have been a song-less film and then the couple of action sequences (Kashmir, villain’s den) could have been trimmed. Also, while high decibel background score in action and high drama sequences is fabulous, it’s a bit low key at some points.
That said, the overall impact of the film is hard hitting as the entire ore-interval block, the whole second half and then the finale has been executed quite well. #JohnAbraham is superb, #AbhishekBanerjee is very good (especially in each of his scenes with John) and #Sharvari appropriate for the role that she is playing.
Yes, you do wonder that given the core theme (Samvidhaan Ki Raksha), was violence the only enabler for the protagonist to get justice. However considering the commercial set up of the film, it does seem justifiable.
Do watch it. It will entertain and also leave you stunned and numb as the end credits roll.
