Ziddi Ishq Season 1 Review: Amidst the hype of The Family Man Season 3, Ziddi Ishq Season 1 has landed on JioHotstar. It is the Hindi adaptation of Raj Chakraborty’s Bengali film Parineeta (2019) and was released with a lot of excitement on 21st November, 2025. The film is loaded with enhanced production values, a more experienced cast, and a darker visual tone. However, despite the upgrade in scale, Ziddi Ishq season 1 fails to rise above a weak script and melodramatic execution.

Ziddi Ishq Season 1 Plot Overview

Ziddi Ishq takes us to the story of Mehul, portrayed by Aaditi Pohankar. Mehul is a teenager who is consumed by her unhealthy infatuation with her tuition teacher, Shekhar (Parambrata Chattopadhyay). There is a clear power dynamic, and this creates the first layer of discomfort in the narrative.
But the plot shifts dramatically because Shekar, who is accused of abusing his girlfriend Sayantika (Riya Sen), dies by alleged suicide. Years later, an adult Mehul begins seeing Shekhar again. Even after his death, Mehul is desperate to prove his innocence. She partners with her colleague Anand (Priyanshu Painyuli) as they uncover links between Shekhar, corporate executive Moushumi (Barkha Bisht), and notorious businessman Sidharth (Sumeet Vyas).
The Ziddi Ishq is a psychological thriller that soon transforms into a chaotic blend of supernatural elements, corporate conspiracy, and revenge drama.
Ziddi Ishq Season 1 Cast Performances: The Highs and the Over-the-Top Lows
Aaditi Pohankar as Mehul
Aaditi Pohankar was average. In a few scenes, she delivers an intense performance, but often her performance feels exaggerated. Mehul swings wildly between teenage giggles, seductive boldness, and full-blown emotional breakdowns. Hence, instead of displaying layered obsession, she often appears unhinged.
Parambrata Chattopadhyay as Shekhar

Parambrata remains one of the show’s few anchors. Viewers will love his calm presence and emotional restraint that bring dignity to an otherwise chaotic narrative.
The Supporting Casts
- Priyanshu Painyuli shines as Anand. He presented the very right balance of sincerity and balance.
- Riya Sen is amazing too, as she stands out with her bold dialogues and quirky accent.
- Sumeet Vyas is seen in the role of the villain Sidharth. He goes all-in on melodrama and barks orders like “Increase her dose!”, which adds to the show’s unintentionally comical tone.
Screenplay and Direction: Stylish But Illogical
Raj Chakraborty’s direction is very stylish, and it gives the series a polished, cinematic texture. However, the foundation of Ziddi Ishq is very shaky. Digant Patil’s screenplay, which is supported by dialogues from Souvik Bhattacharya, softens the original film’s excesses but still suffers from:
- heavy-handed plot turns
- forced emotional beats
- contrived twists
- a serious tone that highlights the absurdity
The show is filled with moments that were meant to shock but instead provoke unintended laughter.
Technical Aspects
Although Ziddi Ishq benefits from:
- improved production design
- atmospheric lighting
- detailed set pieces
…these strengths cannot compensate for the narrative’s lack of logic. The show looks premium but feels hollow. It often distracts the viewers from focusing on one story because the narrative is so messed up.
Final Verdict: Watchable but Only If You Enjoy Melodramatic Thrillers
Ziddi Ishq Season 1 is a bold attempt at obsessive romance. The show, which is wrapped in mystery and supernatural flair, fails to make it big. The inconsistent writing and exaggerated performances dilute its emotional impact. Ziddi Ishq Season 1 is currently streaming on Jio Hotstar on November 21, 2025.
The Ziddi Ishq Series is for you if you are one of those viewers who enjoy pulpy, dramatic thrillers. However, if you are looking for a coherent psychological story, you may find it frustrating.
