Happy Raj Movie Rating and Details Overview
Baapofmovies.com Rating: 2/5
- Release Date: March 27, 2026
- Written & Directed by: Maria Raja Elanchezian
- Cast: GV Prakash, Sri Gouri Priya, Prathana Nathan, George Maryan, and others.
- Runtime: 2hrs 36min (156 Minutes)
Plot Overview
Happy Raj’s story is based on a character named Anand Raj, who is also known by the name Happy and is played by GV Prakash Kumar. His life is largely influenced by his father, who is played by George Maryan and is named Kathamuthu. His short stature and look made him a subject of ridicule in their town.
As a result of this influence and environment that he is living in, Happy is a very insecure and embarrassed character. His situation is made worse by the fact that even his relationships are affected by this.
Cast Performances
GV Prakash Kumar gives a below-average performance, conveying the conflict of emotions of his character, but doing nothing to elevate the poor script.
The best performance, without a doubt, is by George Maryan, who gives it his all, even in a series of uncomfortable and exploitative comedic scenes. It is this performance that adds a degree of emotional depth, especially in the climax.
Supporting actors like Sri Gouri Priya and Abbas do not make a significant impact due to the poor characterization of their roles, and the comedic relief is a total failure.

Plus Points
The central idea of the movie, tackling body shaming and social prejudice, is a good one, and it is a very relevant issue. Emotional scenes in the climax, especially those involving father and son, are a glimpse of what Happy Raj could have been.
George Maryan’s sincere performance is a redeeming feature of this movie.
Minus Points
However, the movie suffers from crass humor and poor storytelling. The movie’s humor is based on making fun of Kathamuthu’s appearance, which contradicts the movie’s message.
The movie’s storytelling is also poor, as it tries to make the viewer sympathize with the protagonist only to shift gears to a moralistic finale. The movie’s humor is not effective, and the movie has repetitive scenes, which are not needed in a movie running over two and a half hours.
Moreover, the movie’s message on the differences between the rich and poor is also exaggerated, making the movie unbelievable.
Direction and VFX
The direction by Maria Raja Elanchezian is poor, as the movie tries to make the viewer laugh but fails in doing so. The direction is inconsistent, making the movie’s tone shift in a way that seems forced.
The movie’s technical aspects are average. The movie doesn’t use much VFX, which is a positive aspect, as the movie tries to focus on the story, which doesn’t work in the movie’s favor due to poor storytelling.

Final Verdict
Despite aiming to be a commercial entertainer with a meaningful social message, the GV Prakash Kumar starrer failed to meet the viewers’ expectations due to its poor execution and storyline. Overall if you are a diehard fan of GV Prakash, you can watch this film once on big screens.
