Bengali Actress Mithu Mukherjee Dies at the Age of 71 After Battle With Cancer

Mumbai, September 21, 2026: On Monday, the veteran Bengali actress Mithu Mukherjee passed away at the age of 71 in Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai, while battling against cancer. Alongside Bengali, she also appeared in Hindi cinema.

The ‘Mouchak’ actress debuted in the film industry in 1971 in the Bengali film ‘Shesh Parba,’ directed by Chitta Bose. Following the Tollywood success, she began the Bollywood journey in 1976 with Dulal Guha’s ‘Khaan Dost.’

Reportedly, the prominent 70s Bengali actress had been residing in Mumbai for several years. Over the past few months the actress had been suffering from cancer before tragically passing away on Sunday night at the Breach Candy Hospital. In the later years of her life, she stayed away from the limelight.

The actress was born on 19 June 1955 in Kolkata, West Bengal. She made her theatrical debut in 1971 at the age of 16. Following, she has delivered the acclaimed Bengali films like Nishi Kanya (1973), Mouchak (1974), Swayamsiddha (1975), and others. After the successful Bengali films, she delivered Bollywood films like Dujane (1984), Ashrita (1990), and others.
