Against Abbas’s wish, Bano refuses to accept his second wife and leaves him and begins a long legal battle for her rightful support. Her fight is very emotional, and it reflects the pain and persistence of thousands of women who dared to seek equality.
The film has taken direct inspiration from the Shah Bano case, as it rightfully blended the real-life legal events with deep emotional storytelling. Each courtroom sequence is crafted with sincerity, and you will feel the energy of faith, justice, and womanhood through an unfiltered lens.
Haq Star Performances
Yami Gautam’s portrayal of Shazia Bano is nothing short of extraordinary. Her role will be remembered for a long time. Her trembling voice in the courtroom and silent pain in her eyes will echo in your memory for a long time. Her performance is raw, heartfelt, and undoubtedly her best to date.
Emraan Hashmi as Abbas Khan was excellent too. He bought his well-balanced actors, and he puts subtle intensity on the screen. His dialogues carry weight, and his acting makes the audience understand his flaws without villainizing him. Vartika Singh, Sheeba Chadha, and Aseem Hattangady are also important parts of Haq. They perfectly did their work and added the much-needed emotional depth and authenticity into their roles.

Writing and Direction: Honest and Unflinching
The strength of Haq lies in its screenplay by Reshu Nath. The writing is precise. The Haq story is well-balanced and poetic, and it is never sensationalized. Each dialogue is perfectly written, and it echoes truth and vulnerability and shows that honesty in storytelling can be louder than any background score.
Suparn Verma’s direction deserves special mention. His keen eye for realism and sensitivity is reflected throughout the film. His direction was spot on as he presented every scene of Haq very effectively. He presented the right balance of law, religion, and humanity and made sure that the message was powerful yet respectful.
Cinematography and Music
The visuals by Amit Roy are excellent. It is captured very beautifully to perfectly mirror the emotional tone of the story. The visuals are muted yet expressive. The courtroom lighting, the quiet domestic spaces, and the close-up shots of Yami’s expressions feel very authentic, and they add realism to Haq. The background score stays minimal, which allows the performances to speak louder than music.
