Funky Movie Review (2026): Anudeep KV’s latest Telugu film, “Funky“, has been released in worldwide theatres, and it tries to combine street-style dance energy with offbeat humour and a coming-of-age narrative. The movie has actors like Vishwak Sen, Kayadu Lohar, and K. Naresh, promising a lively entertainer that is packed with dance battles, chaos, and punchy comedy. However, while the concept holds potential, the execution turns out to be uneven, and that’s what makes Funky a mixed cinematic experience.
Funky Plot Overview

Funky is centred around Maya, a young woman who is deeply passionate about dance. Life gradually pulls her away from her dreams, and this forces her into a routine existence that lacks colour and excitement. However, her ambitions seem to fade. But she soon connects with a local dance crew.
The journey becomes one of self-acceptance that embraces imperfections and rediscovers individuality. On paper, the story is very well executed and fits well within the tried-and-tested underdog dance drama formula. However, the film struggles to translate this emotional arc effectively on screen.
Direction and Screenplay
Director Anudeep KV has done an amazing job to present the absurd situations, exaggerated characters, and rapid-fire one-liners. This approach is unique, as it delivers occasional laughs, but eventually it also weakens the emotional depth of Maya’s journey.
The first half feels particularly inconsistent. The first half relies more on random humour than cohesive storytelling. The narrative looks very disturbed as it jumps between loosely connected comic sequences. The screenplay often feels like a collection of skits stitched together, and this works against the film, preventing viewers from fully engaging with the characters and their motivations.
Funky Cast Performances

Vishwak Sen has done an amazing job to deliver an earnest performance but appears slightly miscast in this exaggerated comedic setup. Vishwak is known for intense and grounded roles, but his strengths don’t always align with the film’s over-the-top tone.
Kayadu Lohar, as Maya, has done a decent job to bring charm and sincerity to the role. However, there is a limited character depth that restricts her ability to leave a lasting impact.
Veteran actor K. Naresh has also provided a few dependable comic moments, though even his presence cannot fully compensate for the inconsistent writing.

Technical Aspects
Funky offers mixed results. Suresh Sarangam’s cinematography is spot on, as it stands out by capturing the vibrancy of dance sequences with colour and flair.
The editing by Navin Nooli feels choppy. Funky transitions lack smoothness that affects the pacing and overall narrative flow. Bheems Ceciroleo’s soundtrack was decent, as it complements the film’s lively tone. However, the songs fail to leave a strong impression after the film ends.
What Works and What Doesn’t
What Works:
- Funky appears to be a very dance-heavy sequence.
- Vibrant cinematography is well executed, which makes sure viewers are well engaged.
- A few genuinely funny one-liners.
What Doesn’t:
- It has a disjointed narration.
- Overreliance on juvenile humour.
- There is a limited emotional depth that makes the film unbearable.
- There are few underdeveloped character arcs.
Final Verdict
All in all, Funky has come forward as that one movie that tries to celebrate chaos and individuality. However, it ultimately gets lost in its own noisy storytelling. The premise of a dance-driven underdog story holds promise, but the screenplay seems to be disturbed as it prioritizes punchlines over meaningful character development.
Overall, Funky is a colorful yet patchy cinematic ride that is entertaining in parts, but it is forgettable in others.
