Jana Nayagan Leak Case: In the ongoing legal tussle associated with Thalapathy Vijay’s movie, “Jana Nayagan,” there is yet another important development. The High Court of Madras has rejected bail applications made by the accused in the case involving the leak of the movie, referring to what investigators regard as the largest piracy case seen in recent times in Tamil cinema. As per the prosecutors, the leak version of the movie had been viewed by almost 1.2 crore viewers online before its release in theatres.
Madras High Court Rejected Bail Petitions
The Madras High Court on July 2, 2026, rejected the bail applications of accused S. Rajini, Jayaprakash, and the 11th accused in the Jana Nayagan leak case. During the hearing, the prosecution contended that the widespread leakage of the movie had resulted in a loss for the producers and the film industry.
The investigators have contended that the prime accused, who is a freelance film editor, had copied the film files from the editing studio onto the hard disk. It is believed that the film was prepared from the footage and put on the Google drive and then distributed through piracy websites and other online forums.
Chennai Police Continue Investigation
The prosecution told the court that the Chennai police had yet to complete the investigations. Although a chargesheet has been filed, the officials disclosed that two out of 21 accused were still absconding.

The investigators stated that it is important to trace these people since this will help in knowing the financial dealings associated with the piracy syndicate. They further said that granting bail to the accused at this stage may result in evidence tampering and witness intimidation, which may affect the investigation.
On the basis of these arguments, the Madras High Court ordered that the accused be kept in custody.

Piracy Probe Far From Over
In light of this alleged breach, the producers of Jana Nayagan have approached the High Court for immediate measures against the illegal distribution of the movie. The court had instructed the ISPs to block any unlawful streaming or downloading of the movie.
Nevertheless, in spite of all this, it is believed that the pirated version of the film had been viewed by millions of people on the internet. It is also being found out how the remaining accused had played their parts.
