Nagabandham Movie Review (2026): Adventure mythological movies are becoming more common in the Indian film industry, and audiences expect not only high visual quality but also emotion in their films. The movie “Nagabandham – The Secret Treasure” tries to bring together elements of mythology, history, and action, presenting a fantasy epic of various time periods. Although the movie creates the scale needed, it cannot sustain the viewer’s interest through its long three-hour duration.

Nagabandham Story Breakdown
The plot tells us about Abdali (Rishabh Sawhney), a merciless character who needs the flower called Brahmakamalam and an ancient book that gives him access to the gate of Nagabandham. This mysterious gate protects the great treasure.
A young villager Rudra (Virat Karrna) tries to defend the temple and save it from evil forces and their attempt to steal all of the secrets that this temple contains. Together with the main plot line, there are other characters, such as the imprisoned dark force called Bairagi, some historical events that started in 1756, and an archaeologist who was looking for the mystery for many years.
At first, the beginning of the film builds up the tension around the temple and its mythology. But as the plot develops, it starts to lose its speed because of unnecessary drags.

Performances
Virat Karrna gives an honest portrayal as Rudra, but this highly intense role calls for more emotions than what Virat can manage.
Nabha Natesh does not have much scope because her character is only there for romance and not as an integral part of the plot.
Jagapathi Babu, Mahesh Manjrekar, and Anasuya Bharadwaj are experienced actors and give good performances, but they are given poorly written parts, which do not let them show their skills.
Rishab Sawhney gives a menacing portrayal in the beginning, but due to repetitive writing, he becomes less scary at times.
What’s Good
Without any doubt, the best thing about this movie is its technical execution. It captures temples, landscapes, and large action sequences in beautiful cinematography by Soundararajan.
Ashok Kumar’s production design of the movie speaks volumes about the ambitious budget, and there are quite a few historically significant locations and set pieces, which only serve to enrich the viewing experience. The beginning of the film does an excellent job establishing a sense of mystery, and the devotionals inside the temple are among the most captivating scenes in the entire film.

What Could Have Been Better
In spite of its visually stunning scenes, Nagabandham has terrible writing. There are too many subplots that distract the audience with their lengthiness.
The romance is poorly developed, there are too many underdeveloped supporting characters, and there are way too many action scenes that are unnecessarily prolonged. Excessive violence diminishes the effect, and the emotional aspect of the story is not developed enough to really touch the audience.
Moreover, the long running time makes the film repetitive, and in the second part of the film better editing would do wonders.
Final Verdict
To sum up, Nagabandham is a visually stunning mythological adventure that has impressive scale and lacks the good screenplay needed to carry the ambitious idea.
