Thalapathy Vijay Becomes Tamil Nadu CM: Historic Political Move – Thalapathy Vijay Swears In As Tamil Nadu Chief Minister.
In an unprecedented political move, C. Joseph Vijay, who is commonly referred to as ‘Thalapathy’ Vijay, took the oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. This swearing-in marks the first time that, in almost six decades, there is a chief minister from outside the clutches of the dominance of the DMK and AIADMK parties.
The founder of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the state in the presence of Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar at the historic Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. Tens of thousands of supporters, political personalities, and movie stars witnessed this grand event.

TVK Makes History in Tamil Nadu Politics
TVK became the single largest party in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections by winning 108 seats on their maiden attempt. While TVK did not win an absolute majority, with the requirement being 118 out of a total strength of 234, Vijay succeeded in securing the backing of Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK, and IUML to form the government.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi was present at the oath-taking ceremony along with other personalities from left parties and alliance constituents.

Nine Ministers Join Vijay’s Cabinet
Nine ministers, too, along with Vijay, have sworn allegiance as part of the new cabinet. Some of these ministers are KA Sengottaiyan, Aadhav Arjuna, N Anand (popularly known as ‘Bussy’ Anand), KG Arunraj, P Venkataramanan, R Nirmal Kumar, RajMohan, Dr TK Prabhu, and Selvi S Keerthana, the youngest minister in the cabinet.
Immediately after swearing-in, Vijay left for Fort St George, where he assumed office as Chief Minister and got guard of honour besides signing several crucial welfare-related files.

Welfare Proposals Approved By Vijay
Soon after assuming office, some of the key proposals sanctioned by him were the provision of 200 units of free electricity for families, the formation of a separate women’s safety squad, and a special task force against drug smuggling.
Speaking as chief minister for the first time, Vijay thanked the people of Tamil Nadu and assured transparent governance based on principles of social justice and secularism.
“This is a new beginning,” said Vijay while addressing his supporters at the swearing-in ceremony.
