My Dearest Assassin Review (2026): In Netflix’s latest Thai film “My Dearest Assassin“, there is an effort made to combine romance, martial arts, and the drama that comes along with assassins into one film with some emotion attached to it. The plot revolves around a love triangle amidst all the violence, betrayal, and hidden assassin gangs. Although this movie is promising from the start, the final product is not consistent despite having visually stunning scenes.

Synopsis
The plot revolves around Lhan who has “aurum blood.” It is an uncommon blood type which is very much valued among powerful criminal gangs. Lhan is abducted by the assassin gang, called House 89, after seeing her parents being murdered. They take her to Bangkok.
Lhan grows up inside a furniture warehouse owned by the House 89, totally ignorant about their real identity. She becomes very friendly with the assassins Pran and M who were brought up along with her. As emotions arise among them, some serious enemies arrive to kidnap her due to her uncommon blood type.
With time, the film moves from being a romantic melodrama to an assassin thriller. Following a series of betrayal and attack, Lhan chooses to cease being a victim and starts training to become a killer too. This brings some action sequences in the movie despite the fact that the romantic story cannot hold itself up in terms of pace.

Performances by the Cast
Pimchanok Luevisadpaibul does an impressive job as the innocent and determined girl Lhan. Her transition from the sheltered girl to an independent assassin is among the best elements in the entire film.
Thanapo Leeratanakachorn is great in his role as Pran, who is very protective and loves Lhan deeply despite his emotional detachment. Similarly, the portrayal of M, by Sivakorn Adulsuttikul, adds tension to the love story but does not have sufficient depth according to the plot development.
The best performance goes to Chaba, the flamboyant assassin, because he adds a lot of energy to the entire film when he is on the screen.
What Works in My Dearest Assassin
Another notable strength of the movie is its visual appeal. The action scenes featuring neon lights, slow-motion shots, and stylized fighting make for a captivating environment of assassins. The director of the film, Taweewat Wantha, seems to be familiar with organizing hand-to-hand fights and gunfights effectively.
The idea of “aurum blood” contributes to the fantastic side of the movie. Even though it is not fully elaborated on, it provides the movie with its special identity, which differentiates it from ordinary action romances.
Sometimes, the romance between the protagonists turns out to be effective and emotionally intimate. Particularly, the training sessions of Lhan and Pran are an excellent example when romantic chemistry works.

What Does Not Work
Although the movie is appealing in many ways, it fails in some aspects. Firstly, the romantic relationship does not develop enough, resulting in a less effective love triangle. Moreover, some emotional scenes can be considered tedious and exaggeratedly melodramatic.
Although the fight scenes are beautifully captured, there are times when they lack substance due to the overreliance on the shaking camera and too much slow motion. The film also tackles more advanced themes of body autonomy, abuse, and women’s independence, yet fails to develop them properly.
A crucial problem with the film is the absence of good character development because the majority of them seem to be rather more one-dimensional than multidimensional.

Final Verdict
Overall, My Dearest Assassin is a promising combination of romance and action with some interesting elements, yet lacking enough substance to become genuinely impressive.
