Netflix’s Apex Movie Review (2026): Netflix’s survival action thriller “ApeX” presents viewers with two renowned actors, Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton, in what seems to be an action-packed, exciting cat-and-mouse chase thriller movie under the direction of Baltasar Kormákur. The movie has been shot in the rugged terrain of Australia. Although filled with eye-catching visuals and moments of suspense, Apex fails to provide depth and turns out to be shallow, aesthetically pleasing but empty.

Apex Synopsis
This thrilling film tells a story about Sasha, played by Charlize Theron, a daredevil who has lost her husband, Tommy (played by Eric Bana). Unable to cope with the loss of her husband, Sasha decides to carry on the risky business that they once did together. She sets out to explore a remote national park.
Soon, however, things take a dramatic twist for the worst as Sasha meets Ben, played by Taron Egerton. Sasha’s meeting with this mysterious stranger ends up becoming her nightmare, as the film turns out to be a survival chase in the wilderness for Sasha.
In summary, the plot is exciting but predictable.
Cast Performance
One of the positive things about Apex is that the cast is excellent. Charlize Theron performs well as a strong-willed and hard-working woman. Being known as an actress who plays action films, she manages to give credibility and intensity to the character of Sasha, although she does not step outside her comfort zone too much here.
Taron Egerton gives a good portrayal of the villain, changing his demeanor slowly from a friendly local person to someone scary. His acting makes the story more interesting and engaging. Moreover, there is Eric Bana in the movie, who appears briefly but sets the right tone for the movie.

What Works
First of all, Apex has amazing visuals. The camera work presents the Australian nature beautifully. In addition, the movie has action sequences, and some scenes during chases are thrilling.
Another great thing about Apex is that there are some elements of suspense in the movie, which make it thrilling. There are several scenes when Sasha and Ben play cat and mouse games, which are quite exciting.

What Falls Short
Although having many positive aspects, Apex fails when it comes to the narrative of the film. The plot appears to be too stereotypical and conventional; it makes use of the typical tropes common for the genre.
In addition, there is no emotional connection with the main character because the viewer gets only an idea about the main heroine’s background without any further elaborations. The setting of the film seems to be too generic, and the same can be said about other supporting characters.
At last, the film experiences an issue with its pace since it tends to slow down in the second part of the movie. Moreover, the attempt to introduce a twist does not make the narrative more interesting.

Final Verdict
Apex proves to be an exciting thriller, yet it cannot be considered a great film due to its conventional storyline. However, the excellent performance by Theron and Egerton makes watching the film quite enjoyable.
Fans of survival thrillers will find some interesting things to enjoy. Still, those who expect a new exciting film will be disappointed with Apex, which turns out to be an action movie without much substance.
