Idhayam Murali Movie Review (2026): Directed by Aakash Baskaran, “Idhayam Murali” is an age-old romantic drama film, which revolves around the story of the beauty of unsaid love, friendship, and maturity. With Atharvaa playing the lead character along with Preity Mukhundhan, Kayadu Lohar, Niharika NM, and some excellent supporting actors, Idhayam Murali tries to bring out the bittersweet essence of young love in various stages of life.
Even though the emotion-based film doesn’t do justice always, Idhayam Murali does manage to impress you with its amazing performances and nostalgia. Here goes the review of Idhayam Murali.

Idhayam Murali Storyline
Taking place in various stages of the main character’s life, Idhayam Murali is a story of Idhaya (played by Atharvaa). As the name suggests, he is a very shy individual who struggles to express his emotions. Throughout the movie, he undergoes various silent romances.
During childhood days, he starts developing an innocent crush on his English teacher. In the days of his schooling, he falls in love with Sam, whom he discovers is an identical twin, thus confusing him about the identity of the woman he loves. Finally, during college days, he starts liking Amutha.
Star Performances
Atharvaa is at his natural best in recent times. He successfully portrays the innocence and awkwardness of a man who finds difficulty in expressing the feelings of his heart. His acting is subtle enough for the character he plays in the movie.
Preity Mukhundhan has done a good job in creating a likable screen image. Kayadu Lohar has been simple yet effective in her role. Niharika NM is quite convincing in the role, and she has played her part well.
Other actors like Thaman, Angeline, Sudhakar, Dravid, and Rakshan have successfully portrayed their parts, and they have created a realistic college gang in the movie. Even the cameo roles of Fahadh Faasil & Malavika Mohanan have made an impact on the audience.

Positive Points
- The best part of Idhayam Murali is its nostalgic feel. The movie captures the innocence of the era of the 90s and early 2000s.
- The parts dealing with friendship are truly inspiring and can turn out to be more touching than the love plot in the movie. The chemistry between the college buddies seems real and thus believable.
- The appealing soundtrack by Thaman and the opening scene become one of the highlights of the whole movie. Another strong point of the film is the casting; almost all actors look perfect in their characters.
Negative Points
- Even though the movie has an emotional plot, it is not deep enough in its screenplay. It is hard to see any development in the love relationships; it is not clear why Idhaya stays attached to her feelings for such a long time.
- Some emotional moments pass too fast, while some other scenes which do not really fit the movie appear to be dramatized.
- The long running time also influences the tempo of the movie, and there are many repeated scenes. The film needed a better screenplay and greater development of characters to have a more profound effect on the viewers.

Verdict
Idhayam Murali is a beautiful and nostalgic coming-of-age romantic drama that portrays the innocence of quiet love and eternal friendship. Atharvaa gives an excellent performance, thanks to the great supporting cast and unique music of the film. Despite the lack of emotional depth of the screenplay and sometimes slow pace of the story, this film is worth watching because of its charm and wonderful friendship.
