‘The India Story’ Plot
The plot of ‘The India Story’ centers on Yogesh (played by Shreyas Talpade). The man who lost his daughter to cancer is trying to prove that high pesticide use in agriculture and food adulteration are what causes cancer. He wants to fight about it in court and gets help from the young lady who is trying her first case in the court and is called Archana (Kajal Aggarwal).
The story starts by telling about possible consequences of pesticide use in agriculture but then shifts towards the problem of the family and becomes much more emotional. It fails to build a legal argument and leaves many questions unanswered.
Cast Performance Review
- Shreyas Talpade gives an honest and heartfelt portrayal of a man in grief. He does an impressive job of showing Yogesh’s emotional turmoil, making him one of the best things about this movie.
- Kajal Aggarwal acts convincingly in emotionally charged scenes, especially when displaying empathy and vulnerability. But she comes across as less convincing in the courtroom scenes and does not do enough to make her character a credible lawyer.
- Murli Sharma, Manish Wadhwa, Atul Tiwari, and Trisha Sarda add value to the cast with their performances, but they have been under-developed.
Positive Aspects
The most redeeming quality of The India Story is its intent. The movie draws attention to important issues of food safety, chemical agriculture, and public health care, which merit attention. The emotional quest for justice by a father also results in some genuine emotional moments in the second half.

Negative Aspects
However, it is also burdened with a few weaknesses. Firstly, the movie lacks proper research and uses exaggeration in lieu of facts. Important points in the court case are repetitive, while some vital facts lack credibility. Moreover, the story lacks a clear link between the girl’s disease and its possible causes.
Another problem with the movie lies in its sensationalization and usage of fear as opposed to balanced narrative. Some of the scenes seem to have been written simply to create fear, instead of informing about the issue. The change in plot from legal case to family affair makes it even more ineffective.
Final Verdict
The India Story has an interesting theme but fails to deliver owing to weak and inconsistent writing. While the performance of Shreyas Talpade and the ability of the movie to highlight a relevant issue make the film worthwhile, the lack of solid research, repetitiveness in the court case, and sensationalism spoil the entire work.
For those who enjoy socially relevant movies, The India Story can be a watchable film because of its message. For those looking for research or courtroom drama in it, it will surely disappoint.
